Good morning, my dear readers. It’s been a long, hard week, hasn’t it? As some of you know, I gave up my “work from home” status about a year ago to actually go to an office five days a week and on days like this, working for other people takes its toll. I’m wiped out today…
…so that’s why I am re-running this story from the archives, about why I thought working from home was so hard that I searched for relief by getting a real job.
I just don’t have enough ways to waste time during the day. There are only a limited numberof videos on YouTube that I can watch, of so I had to come up with a homemade way to squander the precious hours of my only life on earth.
So I taught Penelope, our pastel tortie, how to play “Fetch the Mousie”.
Turns out that when you teach a cat how to play “Fetch the Mousie”, forever after there will never be a time when they don’t want to play “Fetch the Mousie”. And you know how cats have difficulty respecting boundaries anyway, right? So now I have a cat who constantly skids onto my desk and through my carefully-arranged piles of papers, notes, drawings, reference books, first drafts, tea cups, left-over toast, paint brushes etc. looking for the mousie. And she looks confused when I keep talking to myself in a very loud voice. For all she seems to know, Get Down Goddammit is something that I scream for no reason at all. Like I have Tourette’s or something.
And the other reason why you should never teach your cat to fetch is because you will spend way too much time trying to get a cute picture of her fetching the mousie.
This is why working at home is exhausting. I need a nap.
