at Wide World Travel in Seattle!

The nation’s oldest Travel Book Store

4411 Wallingford Ave. N

206 634-3453

Wide World Travel has been the traveler’s go-to resource for all things trekking, road tripping, roaming, and wandering for over 40 years.

We are fundraising to make sure this amazing treasure trove of travel lore, equipment, and Vivian Swift books stays put!

Maybe you’ve read the story in The Seattle Review of Books or in Shelf Awareness.

If you love book stores (and don’t we all LOVE book stores?) come on out on May 3 and get together with Your People. And me.  I’ll be the one up front, yakking about the creative life, the art of travel, going forth in awe, and basically counting the minutes until we start pouring the wine. Can we count you in???

at Broadway Books in Portland, Oregon!

1714 Broadway NE

503 284-1726

If you’ve heard that Portland is America’s coziest hip city, Broadway Books is at the heart of that intersection of Weird and Wonderful.  Their Author Events are like nothing you’ve ever seen, unless you’ve already seen writers turn up for their readings wearing a swimsuit and fishnets; or fans in clown costume. In which case, yeah, I won’t be wearing  anything crazier than my usual Uggs.

Come As You Are to our Great Pacific Great Northwest gathering! I’ll be talking about despair and awe, art and folly (that’s my career in a nutshell). The world famous  Portland Japanese Garden is, hand down, the finest Japanese garden in the nation and, considering how I feel about Japanese Gardens, I suspect I might get into trouble if I talk about it, so that topic is off limits, unless I can’t help myself.

Breaking News: I’ll be part of Spring Unveiling — North Oregon Coast’s most popular art event!  Local galleries will spotlight new work by nearly 40 artists May 1-3. Unveilings, demos, and receptions with live music will take place all weekend long in one of “The 100 Best Art Towns in America.”

I’ll be displaying selected bits of original art from all three of my illustrated travel memoirs:images-2

Trsicuits, Squints, Rescues — the whole ugly kaboodle.
